What Is Pastoral Counseling
What Is Pastoral Counseling
Pastoral counseling is a form of biblical counsel that integrates psychological theory intertwined with theology, faith, and spirituality towards holistically providing soul care to those seeking assistance with personal, family, marital and faith issues towards emotional healing and spiritual restoration. The Bible declares in 2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." The Christian pastoral counselor holistic approach is aimed to guide individuals during their state of brokenness towards spiritual formation development encompassing their spirit, mind, heart, and body aligned with God's Word and their personal worldview beliefs/perspectives for living. The process of healing envelopes an holistic approach of collaborating with one's spirit, mind, heart, body and varies individually weighing influential factors of the degree/type of pain afflicted, environmental stimuli, relational ties, psychological well-being, and theological foundation. The truth of God’s Word offers hope, peace, and comfort in times of distress when seeking emotional healing and spiritual restoration of psychological well-being while also strengthening spiritual growth through faith and trust in the process. Healing occurs when one becomes self aware of their root problem(s), acknowledgement of his or her desire for overall well-being, and willingness to let go of the source of their pain that has wounded them by allowing the Holy Spirit to begin the healing transformation process of spirit, mind, heart, and body from their rooted beginning.
